Curriculum includes pedagogy, for the WAY we educate children influences WHAT children learn.\u00a0 While we can identify core values, concepts, and behaviors or skills that we want all children to learn (WHAT), we face the challenge of making this knowledge accessible and relevant to each child (WAY).\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\">In a deeper sense, the heart of education refers not only to WHAT we want to teach and the WAY we teach but also WHO we teach, the \u201cheart\u201d of the individual child or group of children. \u00a0Rather than defining curriculum as a single body of knowledge or set of developmentally appropriate skills, the focus of curriculum ought to be (1) the emotional and intellectual needs and interests of the children and (2) the nurturing relationships we build with children (and families) which make possible a deep understanding of the child (and family).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Educators (and parents) therefore ought to be primarily concerned with understanding children.\u00a0 Who is the child?\u00a0 What is his or her unique potential?\u00a0\u00a0 Why does he or she feel, think, and act in these ways?\u00a0 Any curriculum or pedagogical approach must reflect the abilities of the children they are meant to reach and teach.\u00a0 This is not only because understanding children enables us to transmit core knowledge to them, but (primarily) because it is precisely the child\u2019s ability to feel and think that ultimately concerns us.\u00a0 Hence, the emotional and intellectual potential of the child together constitute \u201cthe heart\u201d of education, underlying and informing the curriculum we choose to adopt.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=264\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\">Role of the Educator<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=262\"><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">Curriculum Development<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=138\"><strong>Jewish Calendar<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The heart of education is also the curriculum. \u00a0When we say \u201ccurriculum\u201d we usually have in mind WHAT we teach children. \u00a0\u201cPedagogy\u201d refers to the WAY we educate children, the process of learning.
