{"id":1696,"date":"2018-10-21T03:39:27","date_gmt":"2018-10-21T03:39:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=1696"},"modified":"2020-11-18T17:04:44","modified_gmt":"2020-11-18T17:04:44","slug":"the-soul","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=1696","title":{"rendered":"The Soul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Created in the image of G-d, each individual is a spiritual being born with unlimited potential for goodness and growth. \u00a0Since G-d is infinite, we are infinite. \u00a0This constitutes our \u201cinfinite self\u201d.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>At the same time, we are unlike our Creator. \u00a0We are physical beings limited by our natural tendencies and social upbringing.\u00a0 This constitutes our \u201cfinite self\u201d.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Together these two selves constitute the soul.\u00a0 Our soul represents the full capacity of our psychology.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>This bi-focal view of the individual highlights a fundamental difference between developmental psychology and Jewish teaching.\u00a0 Whereas developmental psychology sources self-actualization within our finite selves, Jewish teaching sources self-actualization within our infinite selves.\u00a0 While human beings develop out of the transaction between genetic constitution (nature) and social environment (nurture), ultimately we cannot rely upon nature or nurture as the source of our self-actualization.\u00a0\u00a0The infinite self is our potential to rise above natural and social parameters to actualize and transform our finite selves.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong>Jewish teaching provides a complete &#8220;map&#8221; of the soul which constitutes the essential &#8220;who&#8221; element of education.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=1718\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Interest and Desire<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=1721\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Intellect and Emotion<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hordinerconsulting.com\/?page_id=1725\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Though, Speech, and Action<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Created in the image of G-d, each individual is a spiritual being born with unlimited potential for goodness and growth. \u00a0Since G-d is infinite, we are infinite. \u00a0This constitutes our \u201cinfinite self\u201d.
